Preservation through Education

STAR Eco Station’s main objective is education. Educating students, visitors and the community on the preservation of our environment and the inter-dependence of all living things.

It is an environmental science museum, an exotic wildlife rescue center, and a haven for endangered and illegally-trafficked exotic animals confiscated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife. They work with over 42 school districts to educate kids.
They hold monthly tours, special events and even have cool camps for kids.

Documentary: What in The World Are They Spraying?

Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Jason Mraz, The Doobie Brothers, Tom Morello, John Hall, Kitaro, Jonathan Wilson, Sweet Honey in the Rock, and special guests joined together for a special benefit event Sunday, August 7, at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA. Proceeds will be distributed to Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) to support Japan disaster relief efforts, and organizations worldwide working to promote safe, alternative, non-nuclear energy.

Some of these politically active musicians participated in a late 1970s series of concerts to raise awareness about the dangers of nuclear power (documented in the film ‘No Nukes’). They reunited along with younger artists for a historic new MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) concert at the Shoreline Amphitheatre (Mountainview, CA).

Abbie Hoffman is a social and political activist in the 1960′s and, with Jerry Rubin, co-founder of the Yippie movement, Abbie Hoffman was front and center within the anti-government scene during some of the nation’s most turbulent times. After his conviction for inciting riots during the infamous Chicago Seven trial was overturned, the law finally caught up with him in 1973 when he was arrested for intent to sell and distribute cocaine. In order to avoid a lifetime prison sentence, Hoffman decided to skip bail and became a fugitive from the law, living under the name Barry Freed in Thousand Island Park, a small community on an island in the St. Lawrence River on the US/Canada border. When this interview was recorded in 1979, he had been in hiding for 5 years.
Part 1 of this interview focuses on his current life in hiding, talking about the small town where he lived and his local (and national) involvement with the anti-nuclear movement. Part 2 focuses on the crime for which he entered into hiding, including Abbie’s opinion of why the bust was set up and what his chances were for getting out of the situation. Parts 3 and 4 detail the current state of the nation and look at whether the events and activism of the 1960′s have had a lasting impact. Part 5 centers around his personal life, including the difficulty of living a new life as a different person and his limited contact with his family. Lastly, the outtakes from the interview contain much information about Abbie’s take on the media, but also capture him at his most unguarded, featuring a series of digressions and tangents.
This interview provides a shocking glimpse into the mind of one of the nation’s most controversial figures, and the opinions he expresses still resonate as strongly today as they did when this recording was originally aired.

Hey no matter what you think, if you are doing it, YOU ARE DOING IT! Just because you happen to put a wrapper on it, saying it’s “Just a job”, doesn’t change the fact that YOU are involved. You are doing it.

They threw out  1.8 million gallons of Corexit into the water. Just because we can’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

I think we need to rescue as many dolphins and other sea life out of the Gulf Spill area that we can. Now.

I just heard the other day that they have come up with a new “disease” — I forget what they call it, but it’s a syndrome for people who don’t work on fast enough computers. They get this disease from being impatient with their computer’s processing time. Woah — hold it, right there!

It was a commercial probably one that I’ll never see again, or no one else will.

I was paying attention to what I was thinking about when my computer was processing and I realized that I sometimes use the time to think positive vibes about the Earth, the Mother. You might want to try it, if you aren’t already. We can use the time. Put the time to work.

We may not be able to see the full answers, but we can sit in the intent of knowing that they will come.

Here’s to a better Tuesday morning and moving through the frequencies that try to attach. We can do it.
WE are the ones we’ve been waiting for.

The efforts by The Trust for Public Land, 6 local Homeowners Associations, Councilman Tom LaBonge and other citizens to protect as public open space 138 acres behind and to the left of the Hollywood Sign is moving forward. We have until April 30, 2010 to raise the funds. They’ve raised $11 million so far, but still need to raise 1 million by the end of the month. This is video from a gathering this past Saturday.

I know you are probably tired of hearing of another “Last” in danger, but here’s another Sacred Site that is being built upon.  The Gabrieleno/Tongva Tribe had burial grounds that were dug up for a super high density development, Playa Vista. They are still trying to get their ancestors bones to rebury. Still asking for a place to rebury them. Playa Vista just got approved to begin their PHASE two development on Friday. Please get involved to help preserve the wetlands.

About an hour and a half outside Los Angeles in Hespiria, California is Cal-Earth. You will be amazed at these Super Adobe type structures built mostly of Earth. They are open to the public the first Saturday of every month.
What Cal-Earth is doing is amazing. It was founded by Nader Khalili, an architect, lover of Rumi Poetry, and someone who worked hard to get the word out about inexpensive shelters, he called Eco-Domes.

With the ever more increasing costs of fuel and heavy loss of trees already, it is necessary to learn alternative ways of living with the Earth. Creating a home from the Earth with a few other materials saves our resources and makes alot of sense. They offer training and apprenticeship courses.
You get a feeling of peace and well being moving from room to room.
It is a very interesting contrast when you drive in, because you end up driving through a new mini subdivision of houses (a single street) to get to the dirt road and parking for Cal-Earth. Our guides were truly kind and knowledgeable people. There was a pot-luck lunch (bring something if you like). —Teri Hitt

— A pile of earth, dug out from the building site, is turned into a small house called Eco- Dome (moon cocoon model), using the Superadobe technology. It documents how professionals and students from many countries training at Cal-Earth Institute built this structure. It is intended for use with materials and tools developed for instruction during the apprenticeship retreat at Cal-Earth. Superadobe technology was first presented by the architect to NASA for lunar habitats, and can build single or clustered homes on earth which are resistant to fire, floods, wind storms and earthquakes.

The Hopi ran with water that they had collected from all over the world in a gourd, from Moenkopi to Mexico City and then to the pyramids of the Sun and Moon at Teotiwakan. They gave the water they had carried with them to the people and water was exchanged. That water was then taken down to Peru and then brought back up to Mexico. Making connections and receiving blessings from the people there.

The following year runners came from Mexico back up to Hopi with the water and also the feminine activating fire. The Hopi met them at the border and ran all the way back with them.
It rained when they crossed into Zuni.

There is part of the ongoing fulfillment of the prophecy of the connection of both the North and South American Indian tribes. It is a process of Coming Together. Coming Back To Center. It is all directions returning to a HEART CENTERED way of being.

This prophecy explains that when the power of the Eagle of the North connects in balance with the spiritual Earth centered Condor of the South, our Earth will then come into balance.

In March of 2006 The Hopi Indians of North America gathered water from all around the world and ran 2,000 miles to be part of a long awaited ceremony at Teotihuacan (http://www.nativeweb.org/pages/pyramids/teotihuacan.html). The Hopi had not been back to Teotihuacan in 500 years.

Here on the spring equinox they were welcomed by an intercontinental gathering of tribes and they performed the Eagle Dance for the first time in 500 years.

–More about the Eagle and Condor Prophecy

Through out our history in the story telling of our ancient people there is a line that is told from generation to generation without the tellings of old we could not survive as the indigenous people. There was a legend told, a story of the great bird, this today is known as the condor and the most  powerful of the native peoples telling, the Eagle. It was said in time there will be a bringing forth to all that is of this creation, of world the Condor will come from the South the Eagle will come from the North and it is said of the two – when they are brought to actual pairing this is now the beginning of what is to be a time of peace.

So in this profound statement of seeing the Condor from the South and the Eagle feather from the North and being bringing forth in time of such an auspicious occasion, a gathering such as this. We know now that this was destiny, this was told in the ancestry and now we have got the ability and the blessing to see the fruition. it is now our responsibility, to know that with this we have responsibility to unfold it in the most appropriate way.

Our people have simply said let heart take lead with this the unfolding

shall come into beautiful manifestation.

One year later the tribes that welcomed the Hopi decided to do a return trip.
They gathered the 4 elements, the water the Hopi brought, the fire which was lit by a mayan elder, earth and air, these tribes ran the 2000 miles back to hopi land and not only brought the 4 element but also brought the much need rain. For the first time, ever the Hopi allowed for an outside group to dance in their sacred second mesa courtyard and allowed it to be recorded. This was a gift.

It is said that Montezuma’s treasure would reveal itself in 500 years. This treasure is the uncovering of the true rich culture of the Native American Indians.
