Most economists believe this repeal directly contributed to the severity of the Financial crisis of 2007–2011 by allowing Wall Street investment banking firms to gamble with their depositors’ money that was held in commercial banks owned or created by the investment firms. 3. CONGRESS ENACT LEGISLATION TO PROTECT OUR DEMOCRACY BY REVERSING THE EFFECTS OF THE CITIZENS UNITED SUPREME COURT DECISION
which essentially said corporations can spend as much as they want on elections. The result is that corporations can buy elections. This means Corporations from anywhere can buy our elections.

RE-ESTABLISH THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES IN THE U.S. SO THAT POLITICAL CANDIDATES ARE GIVEN EQUAL TIME FOR FREE AT REASONABLE INTERVALS IN DAILY PROGRAMMING DURING CAMPAIGN SEASON.
The same should extend to other media.

4. CONGRESS PASS THE BUFFETT RULE ON FAIR TAXATION SO THE RICH AND CORPORATIONS PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE, CLOSE CORPORATE TAX LOOP HOLES AND ENACT A PROHIBITION ON HIDING FUNDS OFF SHORE.
No more GE paying zero or negative taxes. Pass the Buffet Rule on fair taxation so the rich pay their fair share.

5. CONGRESS COMPLETELY REVAMP THE SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION
and staff it at all levels with proven professionals who get the job done protecting the integrity of the marketplace so citizens and investors are both protected.

It’s currently has a joke of a budget and is run by Wall St. insiders who often leave for high ticket cushy jobs with the corporations they were just regulating. Sounds like the recipe for disaster that has brought us to this place.

6. CONGRESS PASS SPECIFIC AND EFFECTIVE LAWS LIMITING THE INFLUENCE OF LOBBYISTS AND ELIMINATING THE PRACTICE OF LOBBYISTS WRITING LEGISLATION THAT ENDS UP IN CONGRESS.

7. CONGRESS PASSING “Revolving Door Legislation” LEGISLATION
ELIMINATING THE ABILITY OF FORMER GOVERNMENT REGULATORS GOING TO WORK FOR CORPORATIONS THAT THEY ONCE REGULATED.
So, you don’t get to work at the FDA for five years playing softball with Pfizer and then go to work for Pfizer making $195,000 a year. While they’re at it, Congress should pass specific and effective laws to enforce strict judicial standards of conduct in matters concerning conflicts of interest. Since integrity out of the box seems to be hard to find today, we need to take steps to reinstate it as a keystone of this country. So long as judges are culled from the ranks of corporate attorneys the 1% will retain control.

8. ELIMINATE “PERSONHOOD” LEGAL STATUS FOR CORPORATIONS.

Fast-forward to 2:20. It’ll blow your mind.
The 14th amendment was supposed to give equal rights to African Americans. It said you “can’t deprive a person of life, liberty or property without due process of law”. Corporation lawyers wanted corporations to have more power so they basically said “corporations are people.” Amazingly, between 1890 and 1910 there were 307 cases brought before the court under the 14th amendment. 288 of these brought by corporations and only 19 by African Americans. 600,000 people were killed to get rights for people and then judges applied those rights to capital and property while stripping them from people. It’s time to set this straight.

And beyond these, I would like to propose that we figure out a way to STOP the weird practice of attaching totally unrelated parts of legislation together in a bill, as a way of plea barganing in things that Corporations want (like American’s natural resources).

A prime example is what they are calling “Payroll Tax Cut” which is really just extending cuts that already exist and should exist. Geez. But attached to this Bill is the Keystone XL pipeline. What you think it’s weird these two are connected? This happens alot and it needs to change.

Congress did approve the 2 month payroll tax and unemployment extension.
With that good comes the ugly Keystone XL Pipeline that has been added to this bill. This pipeline brings Canadian Tar Sands through America to the Gulf Coast. Yeah the Gulf Coast, already polluted by BP’s lack of oversight, lack of insight and lack of soul.

The Keystone XL Pipleline (hardly mentioned in any of the debates in Congress) must be stopped from possibly destroying one of the biggest aquifers we have. Please do your own research and share what you find.We can’t afford to have this water resource poisoned, we can’t afford the huge costs to wildlife and basic vitality of the land.

just the worst part of people,

the sleeping part.

The part that says

“I’m just doing my job.”

Leaving out the Ethics of the situation, the responsibility of the position they have. Leaving those things out, they are a single motivated machine crashing forward with a sole intention of making more money for the people that own the corporation. Corporations are NOT PEOPLE and should not be allowed to use the laws meant for individuals. This law as well as the laws saying that foreign corporations can invest unlimited money into our electoral system SHOULD BE REPEALED. Just more of the same dumb game.

It was a war zone on Pine Ridge in the 1970s. The abuses that the American Indians suffered under the US government were extreme and prolonged.

This was part of a pattern of violence that was occurring at the Reservation during this time.

Abbie Hoffman is a social and political activist in the 1960′s and, with Jerry Rubin, co-founder of the Yippie movement, Abbie Hoffman was front and center within the anti-government scene during some of the nation’s most turbulent times. After his conviction for inciting riots during the infamous Chicago Seven trial was overturned, the law finally caught up with him in 1973 when he was arrested for intent to sell and distribute cocaine. In order to avoid a lifetime prison sentence, Hoffman decided to skip bail and became a fugitive from the law, living under the name Barry Freed in Thousand Island Park, a small community on an island in the St. Lawrence River on the US/Canada border. When this interview was recorded in 1979, he had been in hiding for 5 years.
Part 1 of this interview focuses on his current life in hiding, talking about the small town where he lived and his local (and national) involvement with the anti-nuclear movement. Part 2 focuses on the crime for which he entered into hiding, including Abbie’s opinion of why the bust was set up and what his chances were for getting out of the situation. Parts 3 and 4 detail the current state of the nation and look at whether the events and activism of the 1960′s have had a lasting impact. Part 5 centers around his personal life, including the difficulty of living a new life as a different person and his limited contact with his family. Native American tribal governments and organizations have also been improperly left out of much of the process, or not given enough time for proper evaluation and consultation due to the fast tracking process, and little has been done by the California Energy Commission or the Bureau of Land Management to ensure the public has had the opportunity to adequately review or comment on this, and other renewable energy projects sited for the California deserts.

We have one eco system. We are all connected. The results of this devastating accident are far reaching.

These companies’ lack of preparation and consideration for our natural resources has brought us to this place. Greed and corruption has run this country for too long. We can take the country back from big business interests.

We are the caretakers of this planet. It is all of our responsibility as human beings to protect the life on this planet. This is our job.

Just because something is hidden does not mean it is not there. The poison that has been unleashed into the Gulf is not going to disappear. We are not that stupid to believe that lie. Much of the life there has been destroyed. There’s no kind of insurance policy or amount of money that’s going to make this right.  This is treason against the planet. Who are these people?

Greed should be a 4 letter word. It is a sign of illness when people are that money hungry or brainwashed so much that they are  ”just doing their job“.

Hey no matter what you think, if you are doing it, YOU ARE DOING IT! Just because you happen to put a wrapper on it, saying it’s “Just a job”, doesn’t change the fact that YOU are involved. You are doing it.

They threw out  1.8 million gallons of Corexit into the water. Just because we can’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

Hey who would sign a bill they don’t read? COME ON! What kind of jokers are these people?

WHO do they think they’re kidding? Here’s a few of the things it would be good to get behind:
—Remove all privileges for Congress and Senate. In other words all laws apply equally to them as they do to us.
—Repeal right to vote for their own raises
—Balance the budget
—Congress does not pay into social security, they should.
—Limit to 2 terms
—They should get their own 401k instead of warranting full salaries for the rest of their lives after serving only one year.
—Make them pay their own insurance premiums
—Whoever didn’t read the biggest spending bill should be put out of office.
—Abolish the Electoral college and put the elections back in the hands of the people. Eliminate the middle-men.

There is much pollution, toxic waste, toxic bi-products that have been left on the lands and post health risks to the that live there. There is arsenic and other pollutants in their once pristine water that cause the children to have bad teeth and are basically poisoning these people. This is a horrible situation that needs to be corrected. Our country has ignored and brushed under the carpet what happened here to the indigenous people.  This is wrong. People in other countries know more about what happened here than is in the general knowledge of people in the U.S. Peabody Coal is responsible, the EPA is responsible.  They need to provide funds to get this cleaned up in a way that is in harmony with the Hopi and the Navajo.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich is one of 39 democrats that didn’t vote for the Health Care Bill.  He didn’t vote for it because it means over 70 billion to insurance companies. It’s the wrong business model. Health Care needs to be seen as a service, not for profit.

Having insurance does not mean Care — Insurance COMPANIES make money NOT providing care. They are for PROFIT.
With the Health Care bill on the table, everyone would be forced to buy from a for PROFIT COMPANY = more money for the Big Companies that don’t care about people. It’s a bonanza for wall street once again. It’s smelling really FISHY over there in Washington.

During negotiations on the bill, Kucinch said that , “The public option shrank from 129 million to 40 million to about 6 million.”
State protection against insurance companies was also taken out of the bill.”

There’s only one way we are going to be able to rescue the people from this horrible system. It’s to establish a not-for-profit health care system. The insurance companies are just in there to make money. They are not in there to help people. Companies by there very nature only value profit. The are singularly directed at all costs.

There may be some good companies out there, but the healthcare industry (that’s what it is) is full of greed and lack of compassion. We are smart enough to come up with something different. —from Dennis Kucinich video (see above) with my comments.

Contact your Senators, contact your independent newspapers. Our country has been taken over scoundrels a long time ago. This is just the phase we are in now. It is up to each of us to Stand Up.

Could it be the same thing that happened here in the U.S. is happening in other countries? Who are these people that think they can steal elections? We must each stand up and speak for what we believe is true. The truth will be revealed. Both sides should want the clarity for the benefit of the people, not a few individuals. If there is a side that does not want clarity for REAL then those persons are not in their positions with the proper intention — that of taking care of the people. We aren’t  6th graders anymore.

We went down to the demonstration today in Los Angeles. About 1,500 people showed up to voice their support for a cease fire in GAZA. People of all ages and nationalities were there. The outcry about what is happening is building daily. We all hope for a cease fire NOW and for the healing to begin. Please share this information to your friends and family. Get involved. Write letters to your Representatives. Think Peace.

I wonder if both sides, Palestenian and Israeli could start chanting PEACE what would happen?

If both sides could start doing this and direct it toward the governing body that is malfunctioning, as it were — (to say the least). This may do something. This is what we all want.

We need to drive attention to the horrible human rights violations that are happening and call for a cease fire. We also need to embrace and support the bridges that are being built between these communities of people who live so close together yet cannot find a way to get along (more on that later). Perhaps we can delve deeper into our evolving spiritual essence and stop the senseless deaths of children, family members and friends.

We can do better.
