_______________

About The Last Continuously Wild Buffalo Herd

• Yellowstone has the ONLY genetically-pure, truly wild buffalo that still exist. These are the ancestors to the  great herds that once roamed North America. This is a connection to the past that cannot be replaced.

• The buffalo are blocked from being able to live natural lives. They encounter severe harassment when they migrate to and from Yosemite National park. This is their natural migration path. Some private land owners allow the buffalo to cross their land but others don’t, not seeing the importance of a natural migration pattern.

• This last wild herd is harassed on an on-going basis by our tax dollars at work. Chased by men on horseback, helicopters, trucks and people with guns. Sometimes buffalo (even babies) are forced to run for many miles. This often causes them to be injured. http://youtu.be/OceBD6tuWZo

This is the only group working in the field, everyday, to stop the slaughter and harassment of Yellowstone’s wild buffalo. Volunteers from around the world defend buffalo on their traditional winter habitat and advocate for their protection. Volunteers spend all day, from sunrise until sunset, watching and documenting actions taken against the buffalo. They patrol from cars, skis and snowshoes to protect buffalo outside the park. Tactics range from video documentation to nonviolent civil disobedience.

The situation that the buffalo face is connected to our own.

Many residents allow BFC to post signs on their property designating them as “Buffalo Safe Zones.” They offer a fence repair service to mitigate damage caused by wildlife. Locals join them on daily rounds, and many support patrols with hot drinks and food. Over 3000 people from all over the country and around the world have joined them in their log cabin on Hebgen Lake to help stop the buffalo slaughter.

We need to change the way we see the buffalo and the world we are a part of.

Buffalo Field Campaign is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
